Fly tipping in the area has become a huge problem according to one local councillor

Brazen cannabis farmers dumped equipment used to grow the drug on a country lane in Keresley - and police have no idea where it's come from.

Piles of ventilation tubing and plastic sheets were found by the roadside in Fivefield Road on February 2.

West Midlands Police have confirmed that the items “definitely” came from somewhere where the Class B drug was being grown.

But officers working in the area say they have no intelligence on possible cannabis farms in the area and as a result are unable to trace where it came from.

Cllr Glenn Williams, who represents Bablake ward which contains Keresley, has hit out at the law breakers and fly tippers who he says are bringing down the area’s reputation.

He said: “I’d like to thank the police for confirming this is the remains of a cannabis operation.

“This sort of criminal activity does our reputation no good and is offensive to our law abiding residents.”

Earlier this week, Cllr Williams shared photographs of more waste dumped at the roadside - this time kitchen appliances.

Cllr Williams explained that he believed the problem of fly tipping has been caused by dodgy waste collectors.

He said: “A big problem is unscrupulous waste collectors who convince residents they are kosher but in fact are unlicensed.

“Once they have the resident’s money, they dump the waste illegally instead of taking it to the tip.

“I’d like to thank those residents who provide me with intelligence on this, which I pass straight on to council officers.”

He added: “Residents and myself are tired of the rural areas of Coventry being used as dumping grounds for other people’s rubbish.

“The green belt is precious and needs to be kept tidy if we want to be a City of Culture.”
