Pcs Jahan Rehan and Kurt Pfadenhauer spotted the fire at a property on Meadfoot Road at 1800 BST on Friday.

They went into the house and found the man, in his 40s, disorientated and suffering from smoke inhalation, West Midlands Police said.

The officers helped him from the property, before returning to save his two dogs and budgie.

An ambulance was called and the man was taken to hospital where he was treated for the effects of smoke inhalation.

Fire crews also attended the scene, and discovered the fire was the result of a faulty electric heater.

Pc Pfadenhauer said: "Given the fact the man could not see, I doubt he would have managed to get out if we hadn't spotted the fire and acted quickly."

PC Kurt Pfadenhauer features in one of the Police "Top Trumps" cards that they give away to kids at local schools. I hope his 'powers' go up after this.
The Coventry Telegraph is the best Newspaper in the world. Honest.

Well done to those 2 policemen. Sounds like they discovered the fire just in time.

It was aminly a 1980's fad Polly, promoted endlessly in television commercials.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_Trumps

Top Trumps was a popular children's card game in the United Kingdom in the 1970s and 1980s, especially amongst boys, for whom it was a popular playground pastime. The topics tended to reflect this, and included military hardware, modes of transport and racing cars. The packs tended to be priced so that children could collect new packs by saving pocket money for a few weeks.

The original Top Trumps were launched in 1977, with eleven different packs published by a company named Dubreq, also known for the Stylophone. Dubreq was taken over by Waddingtons in 1982, and they continued manufacturing packs until the early 1990s. The packs from this period are now collectible.
