Fire crews are warning drivers of the dangers of surface water after a driver had to be rescued from his car after crashing into a tree.

The driver ploughed into the tree on the A45 Dunchurch Highway yesterday afternoon after losing control driving through a large puddle in the road.

Crews from Canley fire station attended the scene along with West Midlands Ambulance Service to get the driver out of the Renault Clio at around 2.30pm.

The driver had gone through the puddle but continued to aquaplane along the road, losing control of his car and crashing into the tree.

Fire crews from Canley station said: “This was a nasty crash, and it was lucky the car had no passengers.

“If it had crashed on the other side, the driver might not have been so lucky.

“People need to be aware that even straight roads like this one are dangerous and can have severe consequences.

“This driver had gone through the puddle in the road, but lost control and aqua planed, causing them to mount the kerb and go into the tree.”

Police also closed the road while emergency crews worked to get the driver out. He was then taken to hospital.
