An 85-year-old woman had to be rescued by firefighters from her smoke-filled Nuneaton home. The woman, who has not been identified, was on the floor of her home in Grove Place and her kitchen was on fire this afternoon (Saturday, October 1).
North Warwickshire Careline raised the alarm with the fire service and three fire engines, two from Nuneaton and one from Atherstone, were sent to the scene.
Upon arrival, fire fighters found 60 per cent of the building smoke logged and a kitchen fire was affecting approximately 25 per cent of the building.
They rescued the woman from the kitchen and she was given care by West Midlands Ambulance Service for smoke inhalation.
Fire fighters used hose reels, main jets and breathing apparatus to deal with the fire and they were at the scene for around an hour.
