Coventry man facing charges after police chase from Rugby ended in city

A Coventry man has been charged with dangerous driving and other offences after a police chase starting in Rugby ended in the city.

The pursuit started in the Rugby area on Wednesday after a car failed to stop and ended just off J2 of the M6 for Coventry.

Thomas McSweeney, 41, of Wendiburgh Street, Canley, has been charged with theft from a shop, driving a motor vehicle dangerously, use of a vehicle without third party insurance and driving without insurance.

A second man, also 41, who was arrested on suspicion of theft has been released without further action.

The police car ended the chase with slight damage to the vehicle and considerable damage to the car under pursuit.

A statement from Warwickshire Police said: “Police followed a car that failed to stop in the Rugby area shortly before 10.40am.

“The car was stopped on the A4600 just off J2 of the M6 at around 11.15am with one police car sustaining slight damage.”

It was the second police pursuit incident on the same day.

Just hours before Rugby police were involved in another pursuit which ended on foot.
