The pipe has been leaking for several days but as yet there are no signs of any workmen to fix the problem

A burst pipe has been wasting hundreds of gallons of water in Coventry city centre for at least two days.

Although cones have been put up around the leak in Well Street, there is no sign of any work taking place to fix the problem.

Water can be seen bubbling through broken Tarmac, and flowing down the street into drains at the junction with Corporation Street.

Severn Trent, whose HQ is in Coventry, said the issue had not been reported to them until now, but that an engineer would now be sent to the scene.

In 2012, Severn Trent revealed it had reduced leakage to a record low level, saying the amount of water lost fell seven per cent in the year to the end of March, below the target set by the regulator.

Repairs to leaking water pipe delayed because it isn't 'causing many problems'

A burst pipe has been wasting thousands of gallons of water in Coventry city centre for up to TWO weeks it has been claimed.

Although several cones have been put up around the leak in Well Street, there is no sign of any work taking place to fix the problem.

Water can be seen bubbling up in various places through broken Tarmac, and flowing down the street into drains at the junction with Corporation Street .

Coventry-based Severn Trent told the Telegraph they had only just been made aware of the problem, despite people working nearby saying it was first reported up to two weeks ago.

The police and city council have also been informed of the issue.

One person said the leak first started as a three-foot high plume of water while a student at the neighbouring Study Inn complex said all 200-bedrooms had been without water for 12 hours at one point.

However Severn Trent say it could be several more days before it’s fixed because they claim it’s not causing any water supply issues to customers.

A spokesman said: “We’ve been made aware of a burst water pipe on Wells Street in Coventry City Centre .

“We’ve been out to investigate and, as it’s not causing any water supply problems for customers, we’re planning to do the repair at a time which will mean the minimum disruption to both customers and shoppers in town.”

Doesn't surprise me. There was a similar leak in the middle of our access road, we had a freshwater spring flowing down the street for several weeks.

ST couldn't really care less. They pay lip-service to many things. :stir:
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

Coventry city centre water leak finally fixed after two weeks

Workmen have finally fixed a burst water pipe in Coventry city centre.

The leak in Well Street was repaired over the weekend, although the road still needs resurfacing and is partially coned off.

It was claimed the pipe had been leaking for up to two weeks, wasting thousands of gallons of water and affecting supplies to nearby businesses.

Coventry based Severn Trent Water, which said on Friday that the leak might not be fixed for several days because it wasn’t causing a problem, has been contacted for a comment.

In 2012, Severn Trent revealed it had reduced leakage to a record low level, saying the amount of water lost fell seven per cent in the year to the end of March, below the target set by the regulator.
