Shoppers at IKEA are being urged to check their bank accounts after the DIY giant revealed customers had been charged TWICE for their purchases.

The Swedish retailer - which has an iconic store in Coventry city centre - says a computer glitch saw a series of customers double-charged on Thursday.

“We are actively working with the payment service provider to rectify these transactions as quickly as possible so that those affected will have the duplicate payments released back to them by their banks,” Donna Moore, from IKEA UK, told Mirror Money.
Who’s affected

The store said the problem was present at all UK branches of IKEA, and had seen 102 of its customers charged twice.

“We apologise for any inconvenience that this caused and if any of our customers are concerned they are welcome to contact us to discuss the matter,” Moore said.
Your rights if shops overcharge

IKEA is proactively working to pay back everyone affected by the mistake on Thursday, but what are your rights if it happens to you?

“If you are overcharged you are entitled to your money back,” James Walker, founder of free complaints resolution service Resolver, said.

“If you are ever overcharged by a retailer, you have the right for a refund for the overpayment. Highlight the issue with them as soon as you notice it - they are obliged to take immediate action.”
