Forensic experts scoured part of Heath Road in Stoke after police found evidence that someone had been hurt in the fight
Police were called to reports of a fight in a street in Coventry but when they arrived the suspects - and victim - had fled.
Officers were called out to Heath Road, Stoke, at 4.10pm on Thursday and arrived in just three minutes.
But when they got there no-one involved in the brawl was around - although witnesses were in the area and helped police with their inquiries.
A spokesman for West Midlands Police said they found evidence that indicated someone had been injured in the incident and as a result the area was cordoned off so a forensic examination could take place.
Police also contacted nearby hospitals to try and establish if any victims had been admitted for treatment.
No victims have come forward or been located.
Police are continuing to trawl CCTV for any clues.
