Three children needed medical treatment but escaped serious injury after a taxi collided with them and a lamppost in Coundon.

The incident happened at around 3.05pm today in Hollyfast Road, according to West Midlands Fire Service, and the children were on bikes.

One of the injured boys escaped further injury as the dislodged lamppost became trapped in some trees preventing it from falling any further.

A service spokesman said: “Crews arrived to find four patients, three children and a taxi driver.

“One of the children, a young boy, was lying on the ground with a dislodged lamppost above him, thankfully having fallen into some trees which were stopping it from falling on to the child.

“One of the boys was treated for back pain and immobilised while the other was treated for an ankle injury. Both were taken to University Hospital.

“The third boy was discharged on scene after being treated for an elbow injury.

“The taxi driver, a man believed to be in his 40s, was treated for a head injury, immobilised and taken to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.

“Thankfully, it appears that all patients avoided serious injuries in the incident.

“Highways have been called to make the lighting safe.”

Having noticed a marked decline in Taxi standards over recent years, I hope that this one was legal and had the correct insurance etc.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
