West Orchards Shopping Centre evacuated after fire in basement

A small fire broke out in a basement cupboard at Coventry's West Orchards Shopping Centre



Shoppers and staff were evacuated from West Orchards Shopping Centre late on Sunday morning after a small fire in a cupboard.

A fuse board caught light in a cupboard in the basement of the building in Smithford Way, Coventry city centre .

Firefighters from West Midlands Fire Service were called at 11.41am on Sunday, May 8.

Firefighters used a carbon dioxide extinguishers and dry powder to put out the fire. They checked the whole building to make sure there wasn’t any smoke.

Shoppers and staff were then allowed back into the building.
