Nearly half of the building was damaged by the early morning blaze
Around 20 firefighters were called to tackle a severe blaze at a city centre restaurant this morning.
West Midlands Fire Service received an emergency call to China Red restaurant and karaoke bar in Hertford Street at around 4.45am.
Four fire engines were sent to tackle the blaze in the three-storey building and were still there at 9.30am.
A spokesman for the service said: “The incident involved a severe fire. Approximately 40 per cent of the building was damaged by the fire.
“Police are in attendance at the incident. There is nothing to suggest the cause at the moment.”
