A 36-year-old man was found with severe head injuries on a petrol forecourt

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder - just one hour after an attack that left another man in a critical condition.

The 41-year-old was arrested at his home in Stoke at around 7.30am today.

The arrest follows from an emergency call being made to disturbance at a petrol station in Binley Road, Stoke , at around 6am.

West Midlands Police attended and found a 36-year-old man with serious head injuries.

It is believed that the attack took place at another location.

According to officers, initial inquiries have revealed that the two men know each other.

Detective Sergeant Joel Mildinhall said: “Although the attack is believed to have happened elsewhere, we were called to a petrol station on Binley Road shortly before 6am following reports of a disturbance on the forecourt.

“Officers attended and found the local man with serious head injuries. He was cared for by officers until medics took him to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.”

Police are now reviewing CCTV and forensic evidence to piece together what the motive for the attack was, however the exact location of the attack is still unknown.

Coventry man appears in court over alleged hammer attack that left victim in a coma

A Coventry man accused of launching an “unprovoked attack” with a claw hammer and leaving his victim in a coma has appeared in court.

Marcin Scherer was arrested after the 36-year-old man was found at the Total petrol station, in Binley Road, with serious head injuries on Saturday morning.

Scherer, 41, of Fusiliers Close, Stoke, was charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and appeared at Coventry Magistrates’ Court today.

The court heard the injured man suffered a number of seizures en route to hospital after being found by officers at around 6.30am.

He had suffered a skull fracture and was placed into an induced coma, from which he has since been woken and is said to be responding well, but remains in a critical condition.

Police believe the alleged attack that caused his injuries happened elsewhere away from the petrol forecourt.

The case was committed to Warwick Crown Court for a plea and case management hearing on April 14.
