A Midlands-based company has completed its purchase of Coventry Airport.

The Patriot Aviation group, owned by Sir Peter Rigby (pictured above), said it aimed to create a commercial regional hub at the site with a full air traffic service.

Scheduled passenger flights could possibly be reintroduced at a later date, Sir Peter said.

The airport at Baginton shut at the beginning of December. Passenger flights stopped in 2008, but it had continued to handle freight.

Sir Peter said the airport's location, in the centre of the country, was a positive factor and his company would maintain a full service with business jets, cargo, light aircraft and helicopters.

"I would like to think that in the future I can also bring in some scheduled flights," he said.

At last, a very experienced company who knows what is the time of day and will not be looking for a quick return when their augmented plan is up and running so a possible future basically for the airport employees.
