Strange white flashes light up Coventry's skies

Confused Coventrians have taken to social media after reporting several bright white flashes in the north of the city.

As many as five flashes were seen in the Walsgrave area of the city from around 7.15pm.

So far the promised storm weather has seen high winds - but no thunder or lightning leaving many people perplexed as to what caused the flashes.

According to Western Power Distribution there are currently no power cuts in Coventry although in the south of Nuneaton 57 properties are without power after an incident at 7.39pm.

The company estimate the power will be restored by 11.30pm.

Coventry Telegraph reader Natalie Turner said the flashes were caused by a 25,000 volt power lines going down just over the M6 in Ansty leaving the people in the village without power.
