A bomb scare in Foleshill caused a main road in the city to be closed off for almost half an hour.

Police were called to Red House Park, off Stoney Stanton Road, after a suspicious package was found next to an electrical substation in the area.

Officers closed the road while they investigated the contents of the package in the park, near Foleshill Police Station.

One witness described seeing a large number of police cars and an ambulance at the scene on Monday evening, just before 8pm.

Police later discovered the package was a large abandoned holdall, believed to contain several tin cans.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “We were called at 7.50pm following a report of a suspicious package near a substation on Stoney Stanton Road.

“The road was closed for a short time while the contents of the item - a large holdall - were investigated and deemed safe.”
