The grade-two listed Eastgate in the centre of Warwick has sold at auction for £215,000.
The scheduled ancient monument is believed to date back to the times of William the Conqueror and was used until recently as a school.
It was sold on Wednesday and the new owners Sarah and Bob Newman said they loved old buildings and the chance to own it was "a dream come true".
The Warwickshire couple said they wanted to let it out for holidays.
