Improvement works will soon begin on a community library.

From the middle of April a revamp of Nuneaton Library will take place.

A community e-hub will be created at the Church Street-based centre from Monday, April 13 near to the entrance.

The aim of the e-hub is to provide a self-contained space so that people can access key public services online and in a confidential environment.

This includes applying for help with care, blue badge enquiries and applying for benefits.

A computer, scanner and telephone will be available so that people can provide necessary proof documents and also access telephone support to use online services or seek advice on current services.

The building is expected to remain open as usual while the work takes place.

Appointments with Warwickshire Registration Service will also be available from the library building from a soundproof pod.

The pod is being installed in April so that people can book one to one registration of births and deaths, and nationality checking appointments in a confidential space.

The portable pod is a versatile space and a similar facility was installed with great success at Bedworth Library last year.

It is hoped that registration services will be available as soon as possible once the work is completed.

Nuneaton Registration Office at Riversley Park on Coton Road is extremely busy and the new pod at the library will give more flexibility and help manage demand.

Councillor Kam Kaur, cabinet member for customers, said: "This work means people will be able to do even more from their local library.

"I am pleased that we are improving access to services in an existing building in the heart of the town centre.

"We would like to thank customers in advance for their patience while the work takes place."

Cllr June Tandy, chair of the corporate services overview and scrutiny committee, added: "Libraries are among the best communal spaces in our communities but we appreciate that there are times when people need to access services confidentially. I am pleased to hear that staff are working to ensure the opening hours are unaffected."
