Crews were called to the terraced property in Oliver Street at 11am yesterday.

Once they got inside they did a full search of the property but found no-one.

The blaze had started in a downstairs room to the rear of the property.

The fire is being treated as arson. A window was smashed at the back of the property before it's believed something was thrown inside starting the fire.

When the Telegraph visited the property today the front door was boarded up and a sign, urging the occupant to contact the housing association Midland Heart, had been posted on the front door.

One neighbour said: “I saw the fire brigade when I went outside. There was an awful lot of smoke.

“The main problem now for the people living close to the house that was damaged is that some of those homes don’t have dividing walls in the loft, so quite a few might be smoke damaged.

“Quite a few of the houses down here are owned by housing associations and people tend to come and go every couple of months.

“The house looks in quite a bad shape now.”
