A woman who was walking her dogs in Coventry woodland was dragged to the ground by an attacker.

The 44-year-old was in Tile Hill Wood, between Hawthorn Lane and Banner Lane, at 3.15pm on Thursday when she was approached by the man.

He pulled her to the ground but one of the woman’s dogs sprang into action and scared the attacker off.

He then left the area.

The attacker is described as white, aged about 30 and about 5ft 10ins.

He has short dark brown hair and was wearing a black Nike shell suit.

Police say he has a ‘‘puffy face’’.

Insp Jo Floyd said: “We immediately sent officers to the woods but unfortunately we were unable to locate the offender.

“Thankfully, the woman only received slight injuries in the assault but understandably she was left extremely shaken. We would like to reassure people that this remains an isolated incident and we will be carrying out patrols in the area.

“We are appealing for witnesses and we are particularly keen to hear from a middle-aged couple seen shortly before the assault . They were walking a small, white and brown dog and the man is described as having grey hair, with the woman possibly wearing an item of red clothing.

“A woman described as East Asian, possibly Chinese, who was with a young boy at the time, was also seen nearby after the attack and we would like to hear from her too.

“We would urge anyone who was in the woods yesterday and recalls seeing a man matching the description given to call us on 101.”

If you don’t wish to speak directly to a police officer or want to give evidence anonymously call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
