Canley fallen tree on fire closes Birmingham train route

Postby dutchman » Wed Oct 16, 2013 6:18 pm

A fallen tree has caught fire on a major train track in Coventry.

The obstruction at Canley was reported and the northbound line between Northampton and Birmingham New Street was closed at about 14:00 BST.

Three trains travelling between New Street and Euston and a fourth travelling from Northampton are currently stranded on the route.

Southbound trains, towards London, are running slowly past engineers working to re-open the line.

A spokesman for London Midland said alternative transport had not been organised yet and it was not known when the northbound service could resume.

Virgin Trains, CrossCountry and London Midland are accepting each others' tickets on services for passengers finding alternative routes.
