A business case aimed at improving rail services between Nuneaton and Coventry is being prepared for the Department for Transport (DfT).

Coventry City Council is getting ready to submit its case for the first stage of the scheme to the government.

The first stage is to have more trains running between the city and town and have new stations at Coventry's Ricoh Arena and Bermuda Park in Nuneaton.

The DfT has already accepted the scheme as a 'regional priority'.

The city council is now working to get funding released for the work, which will also include a new bay platform at Coventry station.

The total cost is expected to be about £16m. The DfT will provide most of the funding.

Call me cynical but I don't think many people will use the service no matter how good it is. The existing railcar already plies the line virtually empty all day.
