Manhunt underway after woman stabbed in Coventry car park

A woman is seriously ill in hospital after a brutal stabbing in a car park in Coventry.

Police believe the 20-year-old was knifed in the chest by an ex-partner and a manhunt is now underway to track him down. Officers were called to Torcastle Close, at the junction with Eden Street, in Paradise, just after 5pm on Monday.

It’s understood the injured 20-year-old was found slumped in a parked Vauxhall

Corsa in the parking area near a block of flats.

She was taken to University Hospital in Walsgrave for treatment where her condition was yesterday described as serious but stable.

Police have not named the person they are looking for, but Det Chief Insp Matt Markham, from Coventry Police, said: “We have launched a major investigation to find the person responsible and at this stage we believe this was a targeted attack by her ex-partner.

“A number of enquiries are currently ongoing to find the person we believe is responsible. The investigation is at an early stage and we would ask anyone with information about what happened to come forward.

“We also want to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen something that could help our enquiry.”

People living in Torcastle Close said that they first became aware of the incident when they spotted police and paramedics near the car at around 5.10pm.

They said that police then raided a nearby block of flats in an effort to track down the attacker.

Ray Simmons, landlord of the Adam and Eve pub, in Eden Street, said: “It was some sort of raid on Paradise House.

“They made an awful racket – I thought someone was smashing the pub up.

“The car park was cordoned off by police and as far as we knew somebody was taken away by paramedics.

“They raided the flats before the football came on. Whatever they did it made the pub shake.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Police have asked for the public’s help to track down a man they suspect is behind a brutal stabbing.

Officers have been searching for Mahad Aden, 21, since a woman was attacked and left for dead in a Coventry car park a fortnight ago.

Neighbours said the 20-year-old victim was found slumped in a parked Vauxhall Corsa left in Torcastle Close, Paradise, on September 16. She had been stabbed in the chest.

Since then officers have been to several addresses linked to the suspect – but Aden has not been found.

The victim was taken to hospital in a serious condition after the attack but has since been released and is said to be recovering well.

Det Insp Stuart Bell, who is investigating, said: “We have visited and searched numerous addresses linked to Aden, but so far we have been unable to locate him.

“This was a brutal attack and we are seeking the public’s help in bringing this offender to justice.”

Aden’s last known address is Paradise House in Eden Street, Paradise, which overlooks the car park where the woman was stabbed.

People living close to the car park said officers raided the block of flats after the woman was attacked.

The landlord of a nearby pub said the noise of the raids “made his building shake”.

After the stabbing police launched a major investigation with Det Chief Insp Matt Markham stating he believed it was a targeted attack.

It is understood that Aden knew his alleged victim.

During the early stages of the investigation police appealed for the public’s help but Aden is still at large.

The car park – which is close to Eden Street’s junction with Stoney Stanton Road – was cordoned off after the incident to allow experts to investigate.

It has since been re-opened to members of the public.

Anyone with information about the incident, or who recognises Aden should call Coventry Police on 101. Alternatively call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Violent thug who stabbed girlfriend repeatedly before fleeing to Ethiopia jailed for 15 years

A man who stabbed a young woman repeatedly in a frenzied attack and then went on the run in Ethiopia has been jailed for 15 years.

Mahad Aden left his victim with scars on her face and body after pulling the knife on her while sat in her car.

He was angry that she would not drop charges against him for a previous attack where he punched her in the face and smothered her with a pillow.

After the knife attack in September 2013, 33-year-old Aden, a Somalian national, fled to Ethiopia and was only arrested upon his arrival back in the UK at Heathrow Airport in August 2015.

He pleaded guilty to wounding with intent and was sentenced at Coventry Crown Court on Friday.

Aden, previously of Eden Street, Paradise, Foleshill , was handed an 11-year prison sentence, which was extended by another four years for the “public’s protection”.

His victim read out a tearful statement to the court and revealed that Aden had told her that if he got sent to prison, upon his release he would “hunt me down and kill me and if he couldn’t find me he would kill my family”.

Thomas Schofield, prosecuting, said that Aden and his victim had been in a “close, but not loving, relationship”.

He said: “On July 3, 2013, Aden wished to assert his control over her and punched her in the face. He then held a pillow over her head and tried to suffocate her.

“As she tried to flee he prodded her in the stomach with a screwdriver.”

She reported the attack to police and he repeatedly threatened her to try and get her to drop the charges.

Mr Schofield said: “He told her ‘You can make one call and drop the case; I can make one call and put a chip in your dad’s car and blow it up’.”

More threats followed in the run-up to the knife attack on September 16 that same year.

After missing around 30 phone calls from Aden, the victim eventually answered and agreed to pick him up in Coventry city centre .

She drove him to Torcastle Close, in Paradise, where he asked to her inside and when she refused he went “mad with rage”.

He punched her in the face and then pulled a knife out of his sock before repeatedly stabbing her.

When she eventually fell out of the car, he repeatedly kicked her while she was on the ground.

He fled the scene after two passers-by appeared, taking the victim’s mobile phone and car keys in the process.

She was left with a stab wound to her left cheek, which had entered her mouth, and also stab wounds to her neck, chest and hands, and a collapsed lung.

Reading out a victim statement to the court , the tearful lady said: “He punched me in the face full on - it felt like the back of my head swung back and hit the top of my back.

“When he started stabbing me I was still dazed. I put my hands up to my face and was looking down at the blood coming from my face.

“I knew if I didn’t get out of the car he would kill me.”

She added: “I have scars on my body, face, chest, chin, neck and hands.

“I can’t bare to look at myself in the mirror because of what I look like.

“I feel people are staring at me and judging me. I feel like a body walking around with no soul.

“I feel like my life has been taken away from me. I get so frustrated and angry that this has happened to me.

“I still have flashbacks and I can see his face in my eyes.

“I thought I was going to die.”

Jailing Aden, Recorder Thomas Rochford told him that he posed a danger to the public.

He said: “Your victim suffered serious injuries and is still suffering psychologically because of what you did to her.

“This was the end of the culmination of a campaign you had waged against her.”

Aden will have to serve a minimum of two thirds of his sentence before he is released.

What a 'nice' man. I trust he'll be deported on his release?
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

No doubt he ll be given on release help for some where to live a leaving grant for when he leaves money to get back home new clothes if his does nt fit or out of date not fit for the era. Money enough to live off for one week and get a budgeting loan if he needs more to last longer. Then he can not be unfairly treat because of being an ethnic minority nor religion when seeking work if this happens he then can get help.

Crazed thug who repeatedly stabbed ex-girlfriend and left her for dead loses sentence appeal

A dangerous thug who launched a crazed knife attack on his ex-girlfriend before going on the run to Ethiopia has been told by top judges he cannot complain about his sentence.

Mahad Aden, of previously of Eden Street, Paradise, Foleshill, left his victim with scars on her face and body after stabbing her in her car - just weeks after being arrested for an earlier assault on her.

He then fled to Africa and remained at large for nearly two years before returning to the UK.

The Somali-born 34-year-old admitted wounding with intent.

He was handed an extended sentence for public protection, made up of an 11-year jail term and four years on extended licence, at Coventry Crown Court in February.

Aden challenged his sentence at London’s Criminal Appeal Court, but his appeal was rejected by three of the country’s most senior judges.

Dismissing his appeal, Mr Justice Sweeney said the offence was committed against the background of a “sustained campaign of violence” towards the victim.

Sitting with Lord Justice Gross and Mr Justice King, he added: “The sentence was not excessive and the judge’s finding of dangerousness was one he was entitled to make.

“Having rightly found that the appellant was dangerous, it was within the judge’s discretion to conclude that a simple, determinate sentence would be insufficient to protect the public and that an extended sentence was required.”

Aden will have to serve at least two thirds of his jail term behind bars before he can even ask the Parole Board to consider his release.

Should have added 5 years on.

These pointless appeals cost the UK a fortune and clog up the courts. It's time that some penalty for making unrealistic appeals was established.

It'll cost a fortune to keep him in a British jail too, it would be much cheaper to deport him back to Somalia.
