Hundreds of households in Spon End were left without a water supply for a brief period this afternoon. Workmen turned off the street stopcocks without warning while a repair job was done due apparently to a carelessly parked car blocking access to the repair site. Severn-Trent's switchboard was flooded with enquiries from baffled householders and unable to answer the deluge of calls.
