Coventry Artspace has been given more than £50,000 for an 18-month project.

The money will be used to commission community art and to support artists, volunteering and art projects.

Artspace director Laura Elliott said: "In these challenging times, having our work recognised is so important and unbelievably rewarding."

Coventry Artspace said they hope the funding will help put it on the national art map by "shining a spotlight" on the work it does at a local level.

Trustee Peter Walters said: "We're delighted by this vote of confidence from the Arts Council and we're determined to make sure that their support is not misplaced."
