A COVENTRY mum died from an infection days after giving birth – and her little boy lost his own fight for life less than a week later.
Lisa Kerr, aged 33, died when an infection led to septic shock four days after the birth of her son Jeremiah, who was born 15 weeks premature.
An inquest heard how hospital staff in Coventry failed to spot signs of Lisa’s infection – which could have been treated with a simple course of antibiotics – and she was sent home.
Deputy coronor Louise Hunt said: “The severity of Lisa’s condition went unrecognised. Had Lisa been recalled to hospital she would have been treated with antibiotics which would have covered this infection and Lisa would have survived.”
