Three people wearing balaclavas entered the Long Street Co-op store in Atherstone, where the post office is located, at about 16:15 GMT on Tuesday.

One of them was reported to be carrying a handgun.

The robbers, who stole an undisclosed amount of money, drove off in a silver Saab car. The post office staff were uninjured.

Warwickshire Police added that the getaway car had been stolen from Bulkington earlier in the day and was recovered over the Leicestershire border in Crow Lane, Sheepy Magna.

The force is appealing for witnesses to come forward.
