Coventry Blaze coach Paul Thompson believes their double victory over the Elite League's top two proves his team will be in contention for trophies.

Blaze followed up a 3-0 win away at leaders Belfast Giants with a 4-3 victory at home to second-placed Nottingham Panthers.

Thompson's side are now fourth in the Elite League

Thompson told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire: "I think what we've done is stamped our authority back."

"We are a team that's contending for a trophy this year."

Thompson added: "Credit to the guys they've been taking a lot of flack lately, some of it deserved and some of it not deserved, but teams have got to grow, I've said that time and time again."

Luke Fulgham scored two of Blaze's goals in the win over the Panthers and Thompson says his team were well worth the victory.

"We've knocked over the top two, and convincingly. We've got games in hand so it was crucial we got these wins," he said.
