Coventry walkers rescued from clifftop in Snowdonia

A group of six walkers stuck on a ledge above a steep cliff in Snowdonia have been rescued.



The friends from Coventry ran into difficulties at Cwm Llafar in the Carneddau mountains in bad weather at about 14:30 BST on Saturday.

They were located a couple of hours later by members of Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue.

The walkers, who were uninjured, were helped off the ledge and escorted down on foot.

Those rescued were part of a larger group but around half had decided to go back down because of the weather.

Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue spokesman Chris Lloyd said: "We climbed up to them to the ledge they were on - it was quite a big ledge, but slippery with a big drop below.

"We escorted them off the ledge onto the footpath and brought them down on foot. We were off by 6.30pm."

In a separate incident, emergency services were involved in a search at Porthmadog, Gwynedd, early on Sunday.

North Wales Police said one person was taken into custody after reports of a male threatening to go into the water.
