A Warwick pensioner was found dead in a forest in the south of France last weekend following several days of searching.
Retired doctor Derek Barrowcliff, 92, had gone on September 19 for a ten day break near Cannes in the French Riviera.
But after going missing last week French police were alerted when he failed to show up to a lunch with friends in the village of Valbonne.
Over 250 people volunteered to help in the search for the man, but the body of Mr Barrowcliff - known to friends and family as Poppy - was discovered on Sunday.
A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are aware of the death of a British national who was found in the Valbonne area of France on 2 October 2011.
“We are in touch with next of kin and are providing consular assistance.”
