'Pub of the Year' title won by Greyhound at Sutton Stop

The Greyhound pub in Sutton Stop, Longford, has won the title of Coventry’s Pub of the Year.

The Campaign for Real Ale’s annual awards recognised the freehouse pub for its quality beers, atmosphere and service.

The Lord Nelson Inn in Ansley scooped the award for North Warwickshire.

Representatives from CAMRA’s Coventry and North Warwickshire branch turned up at the Greyhound last week to reward the city’s best boozer.

Landlord Leigh Watts said: “The key to keeping a good pub for us is keeping the ambience right regarding anti-social behaviour.

“If anyone is out of order with their language and the way they treat people then we deal with it.

“I like to think people come here because it’s a nice friendly place to be.”

Leigh has been running the Greyhound as a freehouse pub for nine years and specialises in cask ales and fresh food.

The 47-year-old added: “The traditional pub is the hub for the whole community. It lets you get away from the rat race and put the world to rights.”
