Veterans, dignitaries, and well wishers young and old packed into Coventry Cathedral for a service ahead of a short march around the city.

The event was part of a nationwide day in support of members of the armed forces.

Servicemen of the past, present and future took centre stage during the Coventry service, with each performing a reading in the cathedral.

In between hymns representatives from the Sea Cadet Corps, Air Training Corps and Army Cadet Force gave thanks before Marine Engineer Stuart Jones, currently serving on board HMS Diamond, read from the Old Testament.

After the ceremony parade marshall John Convery said: “It’s a pity the weather hasn’t been great because that has affected the turnout.

“But it is still great that the city of Coventry is offering its support to members of the armed forces past, present and future.

“I would like to thank everybody that has turned out today and supported the parade.

“The City of Coventry Ex-Service Standard Bearers did a wonderful job along with the City of Coventry Corps of Drums.”
