Operation Serve and Protect was launched on April 1st and since then 33 properties have been searched and 240 people stopped and searched.

In that time 45 people were arrested for failing to appear at court, 25 for breaching the terms of their bail, and six were sent back to prison for breaking the terms of their release.

In addition, there have been 72 prisoners arrested, 17 for robbery, 42 for burglary and 13 for vehicle crime offences. Of these, 23 have been charged and put before the court and 34 bailed pending further enquiries.

There have been almost 300 fewer victims of crime compared with the same month last year.

Coventry Police Chief Inspector Kerry Blakeman is leading Operation Serve & Protect in the city. He said: “We’ve established a tight grip on offenders…we’re using every opportunity to manage their behaviour and keep them in the spotlight.

“It’s not optional for offenders to honour bail conditions – and any we find flouting them can expect to be targeted by officers and hauled into custody. We will make sure offenders are where they should be, when they should be, and are not dipping under the radar to commit offences.”
