Mr Stobart, of Ettington, near Stratford, had been admitted to Coventry’s University Hospital with heart problems.

The 56-year-old was the former managing director of the famous haulage firm which his father Eddie founded in Cumbria in the 1950s.

Over 30 years Mr Stobart transformed the firm into an iconic brand before selling to his brother William and business partner Andrew Tinkler in 2004.

A statement on the company’s website said: “Our thoughts are with Edward’s wife Mandy, his children and family at this difficult time.”
