There are so many streets asking for a party for the Royal Wedding in Coventry the deadline to apply has been extended.
Until three weeks ago, there’d been just 14 ‘expressions of interest’ in the city – however, the council have since confirmed they’ve now had 30 formal applications to hold bashes.
Of those 11 have been given the go-ahead so far.
It figures mean the city is second only to London, where 70 applications have been received.
Coventry’s officials did cause problems back in February, by putting incorrect information about street party activities on their website, claiming no music or entertainment would be allowed.
The webpage – which also incorrectly stated all parties would have to end by 9pm – has since been changed.
One of the men organising things here, Cabinet Member Phil Townshend said it’s only right the deadline to sign up for one in Coventry’s been extended to the 28th March – two weeks from today:
“With enthusiasm building, we were aware of the steady stream of application requests still coming in on a daily basis, and didn’t want anyone to miss out on the opportunity to celebrate this wonderful historic occasion.
“This day will not just be a national celebration, but an opportunity to build lasting friendships between neighbours. We have done everything possible to make it easy for residents to celebrate the historic event by minimising bureaucracy and not charging for road closures for people holding street parties.
“I hope that Coventry will be swathed in bunting and alive with the sounds of families enjoying themselves on April 29.”

Deadlines vary in Warwickshire- people in Nuneaton and Bedworth have got until Friday, whilst people in North Warwickshire can apply up til the 28th March.
For Rugby and Warwick District it is best to call and check with the local council office.
