Coventry Market has its roundabout back up and running after much needed repairs.
Archive picture by Brian Rowston/Historic CoventryShoppers can enjoy the free ride each Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, which is being run by market traders and the city council.
The roundabout closed last year after its previous operator could no longer afford to carry out the extensive repairs.
But now each ride is being paid by the traders who are raising funds to maintain its upkeep.
Market manager Brian Sexton said: “It’s envisaged it will be free for at least the next 12 months and for as long as the traders can keep raising money to keep it going after that. It’s great to have it running again.”
Coun Linda Bigham (Lab, Longford) said “The roundabout is an important feature of the market and the city. It holds fond memories for so many of the people of Coventry.”
