Good find Rebbonk  I'm still drooling over the details in this map of Coventry which is labelled 1801 but which Rob Orland tells me is actually 1807:

Interesting find. It would be truly fascinating to be able to go back and walk round the city then, wouldn't it? Despite the vagaries of living at that time, I'll bet most of us would have been a lot happier then than now.

Not sure that's the case, flapdoodle. If it was 1850 - yes, awful, but 1801 wasn't too bad. Yes, you wouldn't have proper healthcare, and working conditions would be very different, but I'll bet people generally were more satisfied than today, and with a much slower pace of life, maybe not living as long as nowadays wouldn't actually seem so bad. I suppose we'll never know the reality, since we can't go back anyway! Of course, the other factor is that inhabitants of 1801 wouldn't have known anything else, so wouldn't have thought anything of it.
