The Seven Glorious Styvechale Gardens on Baginton Road will welcome visitors this Sunday for the National Open Garden Scheme.

The scheme helps those proud of their gardens take donations for charity from those interested in learning greenfingered techniques or smelling the aromas of flowers in bloom.

Around 3,700 gardens open to the public each year and the scheme has already raised £50million for nursing charities in the UK.

The Styvechale Gardens are one of Coventry’s most exciting offerings and includes last year’s Daily Mail National Garden Competition winner.

The promoters describe the seven plots as: “Charming mature suburban gardens with imaginatively planted borders, spectacular roses, water features, fruit and vegetable patches and country garden planting.”

They added: “As the main fundraisers for Macmillan, each NGS ticket sold at the garden gate makes a very real and practical difference to the care of terminally ill patients.”

They say light refreshments will be served throughout the day with bacon and sausage batches served between 11am and 2pm.

Last year, the scheme donated more than three million to charities including Macmillan and Marie Curie.

The gardens will be open on Sunday, June 10 between 11am and 5pm and combined admission is £4.00 – children free.

Tickets and a map are available on the day from West Orchard United Reformed Church, The Chesils CV3 6FP (http://www.ngs.org.uk)
