New garden facilities have given Grangehurst Primary School a new lease of life after work was finally completed.

The school, in Aldermans Green, drew up plans last year to convert a neighbouring piece of land into a gardening and conservation area for both school and community use.

The school now has a range of new activities such as pond-dipping in the new pond, wildlife-watching from a viewing hut, growing vegetables and flowers, and a firepit which Guides and Scouts can use to obtain various badges.

A new garden shed, a small meadow, and tables and benches have also been added.

Funding was obtained with a £10,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund, with an extra £750 from the Naturesave Trust.

Contractors were given permission to begin work last September.

This was delayed until March due to bad weather, but has now finished without any hindrance to the school.
