Chain becomes first in the country to sell unique hybrid plantMorrisons supermarkets in Coventry are looking to transform the face of the city's gardens with the launch of a unique new product.
The country's first ever potted 'Ketchup and Chips' plant - yes, really - is coming to the city, it has been confirmed.
Two supermarkets - in Skipworth Road, in Binley, and Holyhead Road, in Radford - will be answering the prayers of chip fans by stocking the plant from 25 April.
The multi-tasker grows fresh tomatoes and potatoes in one pot at the same time, and comes after research revealed residents' gardens were getting smaller with more and more people living in flats and apartments.
Indeed, 47 per cent of households now only have access to a small balcony - and 11 per cent have no garden area at all.
Green fingered Coventrians aren’t letting a lack of space prevent them from growing their own food and plants, though, and this innovative ‘veg plot in a pot’ can be grown in a large patio pot or 40 litre bag.
Morrisons bosses said: “Many of our customers are green fingered.
"But over recent years we’ve witnessed the frustration of shoppers who have less and less space to grow their own.
"This new plant is just the solution for our shrinking gardens - and will enable everyone to follow their produce from plant pot to plate!”
The plant is available alongside an Egg and Chips Plant, another unique hybrid plant that grows aubergines and potatoes, and both products cost £5.
