To coincide with National Allotment week, several members of the Nuneaton Federation of Allotment Associations (NFFA) are holding open days next month.

It is part of NFFA's commitment to support Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council's allotment strategy, which includes promoting the benefits of growing fruit and vegetables to the wider community.

"We will be opening the usually locked gates to the allotment sites and inviting the public in to have a look and have a chat about growing your own," said NFAA spokesperson.

The associations hosting open days are:

Aberdeen Allotment Association in Roxburgh Road on Saturday, August 8 from 10am until 12noon.

College Street Allotment Association in College Street on Sunday, August 16 from 10am until 12noon.

Greenmoor Community Allotment Association in Greenmoor Road on Saturday, August 8 from 12noon until 4pm.

Ryder's Hill Allotment Association off Camp Hill Road on Saturday, August 8 from 10am until 12noon.

Shepperton Allotment Association off Caldwell Road on Saturday, August 15 from 1.30pm until 4.30pm.

St Mary's Road Allotment Association in St Mary's Road on Sunday, August 16 from 10am until 12noon.

Weddington Allotment Association in Shawe Avenue on Saturday, August 15 from 10am until 1pm.

"Facilities and activities will vary across the sites," the NFAA spokesperson added.

"Some will have tea and coffee available, most of them do not have toilets on site.

"Shepperton will have a representative on site from a composting toilet company to explain how they work.

"All sites will have someone to show visitors around and plot holders to answer questions about gardening."

It has been stressed that parking will not be available at any of the sites.
