WWII proves more popular that battles set in A Galaxy Far, Far Away

Call of Duty: WWII has held off the march of the stormtroopers in Star Wars Battlefront II to make it three weeks on top of the UK's sales charts.

It's a big win for Activision, with the company enjoying a third successive week at the top, but no doubt people will point to the controversy surrounding loot boxes in Battlefront II as one of the factors to take into consideration. It's also worth noting once again that these are retail charts and don't take digital sales into account.

In terms of brand new releases, Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 made this week's top ten, but otherwise, it was very much a tale of re-releases and remasters.

The two Ultra Pokémon games (Sun and Moon) both debuted in the top five, The Sims 4 launched straight into this week's top ten thanks to its console release, and we also saw a top ten debut for the remastered version of L.A. Noire. Even the VR-version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim squeezed into the top twenty (at No19).

Here's the GfK Chart-Track multiplatform top ten:

1. Call of Duty: WWII / Activision
2. Star Wars Battlefront II / EA
3. FIFA 18 / EA
4. Pokémon Ultra Sun / Nintendo
5. Pokémon Ultra Moon / Nintendo
6. Assassin's Creed Origins / Ubisoft
7. The Sims 4 / EA
8. L.A. Noire / Take 2
9. Super Mario Odyssey / Nintendo
10. Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 / Warner Bros.

Update: Games Industry is reporting that Battlefront II's first week sales are 50% lower than those of 2016's Battlefield 1, and 61% lower than the first Battlefront back in 2015. Naturally, the rise of digital sales will soften the blow somewhat for EA, but even a significant rise in that area won't be enough to gloss over the fact that the Star Wars-themed shooter hasn't met expectations.
