Nintendo's first number one in more than six years

It's been a while since Nintendo had a UK retail number one game, but the re-issued Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for Switch succeeded where so many other Nintendo releases have failed and score the company's first chart-topper since Pokémon White in week 9 of 2011. Perhaps even more surprising is the fact that this marks the first number for Nintendo's tireless plumber since Mario Kart Wii in week 34 of 2008. In other positive Nintendo news, renewed stock of Switch consoles (no doubt to coincide with the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe release), saw Breath of the Wild climb back up to number 5.

There was a lot of new release towards the top of the charts as CI Games' Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 came in second and Bandai Namco's creepy platformer Little Nightmares scored a surprise fourth spot. Down in 14th was the retail release of Outlast Trinity and the brilliant puzzle game Puyo Puyo Tetris came in at 18.
