But that doesn't mean you won't end up spending a fortune

Nintendo's next batch of mobile games will be completely free to download, it has been revealed.

Nintendo told the Wall Street Journal that mobile versions of Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem will be free-to-play.

Of course, that doesn't mean you won't end up spending a small fortune on in-app purchases, because you can certainly expect microtransactions of some kind.

With Animal Crossing featuring all those cosmetic items like haircuts, outfits and furnishings, you could quite easily rack up a huge bill.

The Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem mobile games will both be released this autumn, which kind of makes up for the lack of Legend of Zelda on Wii U this Christmas.

The Animal Crossing app will be connected to New Leaf on 3DS. "By playing both Animal Crossing games, users will find increased enjoyment," reads a Nintendo statement.

Fire Emblem, meanwhile, will be more accessible than its console counterparts.

"Compared to Miitomo, they have more prominent game elements, and the game content will tie closely into Nintendo's dedicated games business," said Nintendo.

"Nintendo will provide more details about these applications closer to their launch period, and aims to have multiple types of apps that appeal to different audiences and different groups of players."
