Watch Dogs has broken a number of week one sales records to become the UK's new all-format number one.

The open-world hacking game is the best-selling new franchise since LA Noire back in 2011, outselling Rockstar's crime thriller by 58%.

Enjoying the 17th best launch week of all time, the game's week one sales are behind only to new titles in the FIFA, Grand Theft Auto and Battlefield series.

Watch Dogs is also Ubisoft's biggest UK launch, outperforming previous record-breaker Assassin's Creed 3 by 17%.

It contributed to a 94% weekly boost in PS4 hardware sales, with 53% of PS4 console buyers purchasing the Watch Dogs bundle.

It comfortably beats fellow new entry Mario Kart 8 into second, although the Wii U release also enjoyed a healthy first week.

Nintendo's latest racer is the best-selling week one Wii U game and the second biggest-selling Mario Kart at launch.

Its release boosted week-to-week Wii U console sales by 666%. 82% of new buyers purchased the Mario Kart 8 bundle.

Elsewhere, Wolfenstein: The New Order drops to third, above FIFA 14 and Minecraft PS3 Edition.

At the tail-end of the chart, the PlayStation Vita edition of Borderlands 2 is a new entry at 18.
