SimCity will require users to have a constant internet connection to play.
An internet connection will be required due to the game's renewed emphasis on creating a global economy, with issues such as climate change, natural disasters and renewable resources having an impact outside of each player's city limits.
The constant online connection will also require an Origin account, with EA's online service handling the game's servers.
Though an Origin account will be required to sign in and play SimCity, EA says the game will be available through other digital distribution platforms on PC. However, no specific distribution channels have been mentioned at this time.
The new SimCity is being developed by original creators Maxis using its new proprietary GlassBox Engine.
SimCity saw its first release in 1989 and the franchise has gone on to sell over 30 million copies worldwide.
The new SimCity will release on PC sometime in 2013.
