Angry Birds saw a total of 6.5 million downloads on Christmas Day, it has been revealed. The record figure was close to the total number of smartphone activations estimated to have occurred over the holiday period, according to AllThingsD.
The figures take into account three releases in the franchise, Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons and Angry Birds Rio, as well as free and paid-for versions.
By comparison, Angry Birds managed two million downloads on iOS and Android during Christmas 2010.
"We're really excited to have such a massive number of new people get acquainted with Angry Birds over the holidays - we have exciting new releases lined up for 2012, and can't wait to introduce them to the public," said vice president of franchise development Ville Heijari.
The smartphone franchise, which has since made the move to PC, web browsers and PSN, broke the 500 million downloads barrier in 2011.
