The latest instalment of the yearly football franchise will be sold at a recommended retail price (RRP) of £54.99, according to MCV.

However, FIFA 12: Ultimate Edition, which will feature the Ultimate Team DLC and one card pack, will be sold at £44.99 when pre-ordered at GAME or Gamestation.

"The FIFA franchise is always one of the best selling games of the year and we are delighted to offer this exclusive version of FIFA 12 to our customers," said GAME and Gamestation PR Neil Ashurst.

"The FIFA Ultimate Team gold packs are a fantastic resource for any gamer, allowing them to play with the very latest squads, perfectly mimicking real-life. GAME and Gamestation are offering football fans the opportunity to change any score for free."

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was one of the first games to be priced at £55 when it was released in 2009, a move that sparked controversy amongst consumers.

However, high price points are usually discounted significantly on launch day, with FIFA itself being the subject of supermarket price wars in the past.

FIFA 12 will be released on consoles, handhelds and PC later this year.
