And there's still a month left...

Sir Clive Sinclair's handheld ZX Spectrum - the Vega+ - has smashed its own crowdfunding record in a very short amount of time.

The Sinclair ZX Spectrum Vega+ handheld was making the rounds just the other day, with hopes to raise £100,000 in crowdfunding. It seems nobody ought have worried - the nostalgic lure is strong with this one.

The IndieGoGo campaign reached its target in around 48 hours, which we all secretly expected it would - but the real surprise is that the Vega+ helped smash the previous Vega's crowdfunding record of £155,677 in under 72 hours.

At the time of writing the total sits just shy of £160,000, and there's a month left on the funding drive.

Regardless of how much is eventually raised, the Sinclair ZX Spectrum Vega+ will be getting made - now we're just into the ever-fun territory of watching numbers get gradually higher.

The device comes with around 1,000 games built-in, and you can load your own to the Vega+ should you have any compatible files littered around your computer (or find them online).

It's fundamentally the same as the original Vega machine, except for the fact it comes with an LCD screen, making it a retro rival to the PS Vita and 3DS. Sort of.

You can still connect the Vega+ to your TV, though, in case you don't want to take it out and about on your commute.
