"She was a beacon of hope and resilience"
Singer Linda Nolan has sadly passed away at the age of 65.
Linda - who rose to fame alongside her sisters Coleen, Maureen, Bernie, Denise and Anne in girl group The Nolans - was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006, which returned in 2017 and later spread to her brain, liver and bones.
According to the star's agent Dermot McNamara, Linda died "peacefully" in hospital this morning with her "loving siblings" by her side (via Sky News).
"Her distinctive voice and magnetic stage presence brought joy to fans around the world, securing her place as an icon of British and Irish entertainment," he said in a statement.
"Beyond her incredible career, Linda dedicated her life to helping others, helping raise over £20m for numerous charities, including Breast Cancer Now, Irish Cancer Society and Samaritans, amongst countless others. Her selflessness and tireless commitment to making a difference in the lives of others will forever be a cornerstone of her legacy."
McNamara continued: "She passed peacefully, with her loving siblings by her bedside, ensuring she was embraced with love and comfort during her final moments.
"Linda's legacy extends beyond her incredible achievements in music and entertainment. She was a beacon of hope and resilience, sharing her journey to raise awareness and inspire others."
A post was also shared to The Nolan's X account in which they said "she faced incurable cancer with courage, grace and determination".
In August 2024, Linda confirmed she was undergoing a new kind of treatment following the progression of her cancer.
A few months later, her sister Coleen Nolan confirmed that Linda was "still having treatment" and said she's "in awe of her every day".
Their sister Bernie passed away from cancer in 2013, while Anne was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000, which returned in 2020. That same year, Anne announced she was cancer free.
In 2023, Coleen announced that she had skin cancer, though later assured fans she would be okay after undergoing treatment for carcinoma on her shoulder and pre-melanoma on her face.
