Singer-songwriter Tom Grennan returned to Coventry for a Big Issue busk on Thursday - and brought along his grandma.

The 29-year-old revealed last week he would perform in the city to raise funds for the Big Issue, a magazine supporting homeless people.

He performed for hundreds at creative and commercial quarter FarGo Village, and debuted his new single, Higher.

"I've not done busking since I've been young, so we’re here doing it for the Big Issue and I'm very very honoured to be a part of that" he said.

He added his grandma Anne showed him where she grew up in Canley, something the pair had never done together before.

"It was lovely to see where my grandma was born and raised," he said.

"Grandma was part of Coventry, and still is a part of Coventry."

When asked the most surprising fact he had learnt about Anne, Grennan replied: "That she was a roller-blader".

She corrected him. "Roller-skater," she said. "We used to skate down Glendower Avenue...it's quite a steep hill."

Grennan said: "The Big Issue helps so many people across the UK with money, with jobs, with everything, and for my face to be on the cover of it...it's mad for me."

He added: "This is why I fell in love with Coventry, because of community.

"People are turning up, and that's the sense, that's the love, and that's the spirit of this place."
